  • One SIMPLE way to remove many of these barriers between our dream self and our actual self (now) is to eat healthy fats.

We all want to be loved. We all want to live as healthy role models that our families, friends, and coworkers look up to. We all want to be that person who has "it" - who is glowing, vibrant, energized, and always seems to say the exact right thing at the right time. We all want to make a difference. We all crave to be a part of something bigger, meaningful, and something or someone to give our lives significance. This is human. It's more than okay to feel this way. In fact, if you don't, I'd question your authenticity and your connection with your true self. What keeps most women from living out these desires are those "normal" things that hold most people back - no energy, no income, no time, no freedom, too many responsibilities, and no guidance. But you were created for more. To be more, do more, matter more than our day-to-day "emergencies" allow. While we cannot change many aspects of our lives in the time it takes to read this article, there is one very simple thing we can ALL focus on in 2013 to eliminate several of the barriers between us and our most vibrant vitality. There is one thing we can all influence to make our lives more delicious, more focused, more clear, and more free (oh, AND to get the body and mind you want too!). ....drum roll please....

Choose Healthy Fats and Eat More of Them.

The kind of fat, not the amount, is arguably the most significant contributor to health, longevity, and the body you earnestly crave and desire. The kind of fat you're eating, not the amount, determines your
  • body composition (i.e., how you look naked in the mirror);
  • ability to think, focus, and concentrate;
  • digestive health;
  • reproductive health;
  • libido;
  • stress levels;
  • immunity
  • heart disease risk;
  • energy levels;
  • hunger levels
  • and more...
Here's the deal... not all fat is created equally. Some fats nourish while others deplete. Some fats make us thin while others cause us to gain weight. Some fats carry toxins while other fats provide powerful cancer-fighting agents. Some fats heal while others kill. It's not your fault that you've been mis-led, mis-informed, and persuaded (through billions of marketing dollars) to believe that fat is unhealthy, "artery-clogging," and will make you fat. I was there. My clients were there. The truth is more complex than simple fat makes you fat AND/OR fat makes you healthy. We must go deeper. (As an aside, it WAS this simple 100 years ago, before the rise of factories that pressed seeds for oils, something brand new to our world and with disastrous consequences) But the world is changing and the sooner you're privy to the truth, the sooner you step up into a movement of people who defy the odds, who have a seemingly "unfair" advantage in life - without managing disease, getting cancers, gaining weight every year, and not knowing where these diseases come from. The sooner your kids don't suffer from autism, ADHD, food allergies, celiac, and abnormal behavior issues. What I'm sharing with you is VERY. Powerful. Stuff.

The Great Fat Swap will do more for your body, your waistline, your thinking, your mind, and your relationships without depriving yourself of anything else you enjoy.

So you like to cook, bake, and eat. Great! If you eat, you can do this. If you like delicious food, this is for you. If you like getting/staying lean, living long, and thriving without brain fog, wrinkles, and heart disease, you're in the right place
  • The fats and oils most of us have primarily consumed over the past 30-50 years are seed oils from plants, like vegetable oil, peanut oil, soybean oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil, canola oil, margarine, and corn oil. We thought these were healthier because of low saturated fat content and high polyunsaturated fat content. For more info about why saturated fats are good for you, read this and this.

So what do we eat instead?

I'm glad you asked! Instead, do these two simple swaps:
    • Swap margarine for grassfed butter and ghee (clarified butter).

      Grassfed butter contains cancer-fighting CLAs; butyrate (a short chain fatty acid known to be anti-inflammatory), vitamin A, D, K, and E; omega-3 fatty acids. Plus, it tastes better! Sauté with ghee, roast with butter, and add butter to your taters! ***Check out local Indian and international markets for ghee!*** The BEST grassfed butter comes raw, straight from the farmer (can make your own ghee from this). Good sources are Kerrygold Butter and Smjor Butter, Purity Farms Ghee and Pure Indian Foods Ghee. Baseline sources are organic butters.
    • Swap vegetable/peanut/soybean/Crisco/grapeseed and canola oil for coconut oil.

      Coconut oil is extremely versatile and can be used for sautéing, cooking, baking, coffee, smoothies, just about anything! Coconut oil contains heat-stable saturate fats like lauric acid, a known "neutral" saturated fat, even among mainstream-fat-is-bad crowd, that is beneficial in boosting energy, shedding fat, improving clarity, and improving/curing/preventing Alzheimer's and dementia-related disorders. The BEST coconut oil is virgin, cold-pressed and may or may not be centrifuge-extracted - brands like Tropical Traditions and Wilderness Family Naturals are great. Good sources of coconut oil are Nutiva, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods 360 brand. Baseline sources are non-hydrogenated coconut oils found at major supermarkets.
These two simple swaps are all you need for more energy, more clearer thinking, and dramatic health results! What's your favorite way to use butter and coconut oil?
